Telefonica, Netflix ink global content integration deal – Telecompaper

Telefonica, Netflix ink global content integration deal Friday 25 May 2018 | 08:45 CET | News Telefonica has announced a multi-year agreement to integrate Netflix into its entire TV and video portfolio across Europe and Latin America. In a statement, the operator said Netflix content will be added to its Movistar+ pay-TV and OTT platform in Latin America in the next few weeks, while the launch in Spain is planned for the end of this year. Without disclosing any pricing details, Telefonica revealed that the Netflix app will be integrated into pay-TV set-top boxes and provide access to Netflix from the Movistar Play Video OTT service, enabling members to pay their Netflix subscription via their Telefonica bill. Netflix will also be available on a zero-rated data basis with mobile plans in certain countries, allowing Telefonica customers to stream video without tapping into their standard data allowance. Titles available will include “Bright”, “Lost in Space”, “Narcos”, “Club de Cuervos”, “3%”, “Stranger Things”, “13 Reasons Why” and “La Casa de Papel”, produced by Spain’s Atresmedia and Vancouver Media, already the the most-watched foreign-language drama series ever on Netflix. Netflix already has peering agreements in place with the majority of Spain’s ISPs and reached the milestone of 1 million subscribers in the second quarter of 2017 after once again doubling its customer base in the first 6 months of the year. The deal with Telefonica will also include a peering deal to eliminate performance issues, according to previous reports.
